AMV Welcomes State Assembly resolution recognizing the month of Ramadan

April 13, 2021:The American Muslim Voice (AMV) has welcomed the passage of a resolution by the State Assembly of California recognizing the month of Ramadan.
The resolution, introduced by Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes, received a unanimous vote in the house. While introducing the resolution, Reyes said the Muslim American community continues to be a pillar of California’s diversity, encompassing nearly every ethnic group of our state.
As the most diverse state in the nation, ACR 50 is critical in respecting and celebrating California’s Muslim community and demonstrating our commitment to the 1 million Muslims living in California, who make our economy, social fabric, and diversity a strength that benefits the entire state.
The Muslim community through numerous charities in California have been an essential part of the state’s response to the COVID pandemic as they have organized food distribution events and have hosted vaccine clinics for vulnerable communities.”
In a statement, the AMV national president Khalid Saeed welcomed the passing of the resolution which in part said: “In observance of and out of respect for the commencement of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal, the Legislature acknowledges the onset of Ramadan and expresses its deepest respect to Muslims across California and throughout the world on this significant occasion.”
The State Legislatures of Georgia and Texas also passed similar resolutions recognizing the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
Resolution about Ramadan introduced in the House of Representatives
Tellingly, on Monday, April 12, a resolution was moved in the House of Representatives recognizing the commencement of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal, and commending Muslims in the United States and throughout the world for their faith. The resolution in part said:
“In order to demonstrate solidarity with and support for members of the community of Islam in the United States and throughout the world, the House of Representatives recognizes the Islamic faith as one of the great religions of the world; and in observance of and out of respect for the commencement of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal, the House of Representatives acknowledges the onset of Ramadan and expresses its deepest respect to Muslims in the 9 United States and throughout the world on this significant occasion.”
